Why do people take binoculars to a small theatre performance?

Saw people walking into a small theater smaller than a 7 11 to see a singing performance. They carried binoculars on their shoulder. I guess I am puzzled as to why when the singers are basically to scale with them.

Maybe they got confused and just thought they were going birdwatching?????!?!!?
no but seriously i think its something to do with class as theatres are associated with with being very posh. So it makes people feel more posh and fancy by bringing their binoculars as thats what they did in the olden days.
Or maybe they’re just blind.
I ask myself that question daily!
