In binoculars, quality is highly correlated with the price. Top of the line will be slightly over $1000, but excellent binoculars can be found for 1/3 to 1/2 that price. Determine how much you are willing to spend and then go to a sporting goods store and compare the brands in that price range. 8 power are easier to hold steady, but 10 power can be held steady if properly held. Many stores will let you take them outside to compare which is much better than trying to compare them inside the store.

for affordability and quality look for Nikon brand.......look for something along the way of 8x40 or 8x42
with 8 being the magnification and 40/42 being the size of the objective lens.........you may go with a 10x50 set but they will be heavier and will shake because of the magnification unless you are using a tripod......the best way to buy is to actually use the binocular in the store vs trying to buy over the Internet....
