McCann asked: I recently had the chance to buy a pair of 10×50 porro prism Galileo binoculars for $40. Do people think it’s a good buy? And if it isn’t in the major league of good instruments, will it still be of some use and fun?
Cheers all.
I know the value of binoculars in astronomy, especially for newbies like myself! But I’m really wondering about the specifics of the brand of Galileo instruments and whether any amount of money for a pair would be a waste.

McCann asked: I’m worried I bought the worst brand for binoculars so if people could tell me their opinions on it for the purposes of astronomy (a 10×50 pair) I’d appreciate it.
Thanks

aorton27 asked: Say with a 30x80mm or 50×100 lens binoculars and a very steady hand is it possible to see any kind of detail of the space station or satelites as they pass overhead?
Cdn, I can see Jupiter with the ***** eye as well. Wondering if I can see detail with binoculars.
As in detail I mean the general shape and maybe see the solar arrays.

Dan C asked: I have been using the heavens above site to see when the Hubble, the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station will be visible from my location. Unfortunatly we have had a couple of days of clouds.
I have 15×70 and 7×35 binoculars and a 5.1″ Meade telescope. How much magnification do I need before these satellites show some shape?

singkit asked: I want to have binoculars to view the stars. Or would it be better to have a telescope instead? I’m just a beginner and would there be a telescope or binoculars less than $100 or 200?
